Day care is care provided for infants and toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-aged children in a centre-based facility, such as a nursery, playgroup or afterschool club.
Whichever type of service you require you should expect your child to be welcomed and valued as an individual, have their individual needs met and be nurtured by staff, who will promote general wellbeing, health, nutrition and safety. The service should provide support for development in a caring environment.
Detailed information on childcare is available at your local childcare information service (CHiS) or on the Scottish families website. CHiS are based in and operated by each local authority and can provide information on nurseries, playgroups, creches, out of school childcare and other support organisations in your area, including availability.
We regulate daycare of children providers using the Health and Social Care Standards and the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010.
