Scotland has five dedicated secure care units that provide a safe and secure environment to young people at risk of harming themselves or others. Services offer a controlled, safe and secure environment for the care and education of young people referred from the Courts and Children's Hearing Panels.
The units provide a full curriculum of care, delivering a range of educational, health and behavioural programmes for young people. The units work with the young people and prepare them for their transition back into the community.
We regulate secure care providers using the Health and Social Care Standards and the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010.
