Staffing method framework consultation now available


We are consulting on the latest draft of our staffing method framework for care homes for adults and invite you to take part in our survey. 

This survey available to complete until Sunday 1 October.

As part of our Safe Staffing programme, the Scottish Government commissioned us to consult with a range of stakeholders and services about a staffing method for use in care homes for adults. This is to prepare services for the enactment of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 from 1 April 2024.

Space to Grow


In 2016 Care Inspectorate in partnership with Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust launched Space to Grow a design guidance for daycare of children’s services including school aged childcare. The design guide was developed as research evidenced that the environment can have both a positive impact on a child’s development and improve learning outcomes for children. To ensure children benefit it is important that settings are provided in environments which is fit for purpose and supports children’s development, health, well-being and happiness.

Braw Lad Cory lands Promise Lead for young people role


Alison Jamieson, team manager in the children and young people’s team met with Cory Paterson, Scottish Borders Council Promise Lead for young people, to ask him about how his care experience and ongoing support from staff at Wheatlands children’s residential home. In the interview, Cory reflects on how genuine, authentic, meaningful relationships, that have continued beyond the time he lived in the house, have helped him with his career and supported him in achieving his personal goals. One of these goals was being picked as his town’s Braw Lad to lead the annual horse ride outs and festivities.
