Update from webinars

We are continuing to work with adult care services to develop their skills around self-evaluation to support our upcoming tests, where we will validate service’s self-evaluations during our inspections.  This has included holding webinars, which were attended by more than 800 people working in or providing adult care services.  At these events, we provided practical support and advice to help services understand the process as well as providing information on how we will be testing a new approach to validating self-evaluation between July and September this year.

Feedback from those who attended the webinars has been very positive.  We heard the information provided was clear and easy to understand and that people enjoyed the opportunity to hear real-life examples of how self-evaluation had led to improvement in care services.  One participant said, ‘’The webinar was highly informative and provided clear insights on how we can enhance our service. This is crucial for us to meet the needs of our users and enable our staff to feel confident and satisfied in their role.’

We asked people to rate how confident they felt in using self-evaluation at the beginning and the end of the webinar to see if their confidence levels improved.  Initially 87% of those who responded reported feeling not at all confident or only somewhat confident. After the webinar, that number dropped to 33%, with 86% of respondents reporting they now felt confident or very confident. Speaking about self-evaluation, a participant told us, ‘(I have) a clearer understanding of where to start’, while another said, ‘I am more confident with my audits and how I can take the actions and put into my development plan to make these improvements’.

A recording of the webinar is available here.

What happens next?

We have a limited number of places remaining for our in-person workshops, which will be held in Perth on Wednesday 29 May 2024.  Registration information is available here.

From 1 July 2024, in some adult care services, we will assess and report on service’s self-evaluation of the core assurances during our usual inspections.

We know that the core assurances are a key driver to good outcomes and minimising the risk of poor outcomes, which is why we examine these at every inspection. A list of the core assurances can be found in the quality framework for your service type. You can find support, guidance and templates for self-evaluation in our toolkits.
