After speaking to stakeholders, registrants and employers last year, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is now consulting on proposed changes to the worker and employer Codes of Practice and is asking for your views.

Since we published the last Codes in 2016, new groups of workers are now required to register and the way care is delivered has changed. This review also gives the chance to make sure the Codes align with national standards and frameworks including the Health and Social Care Standards and take account of the learning and recommendations from national reviews.

The Codes set out the behaviours and values expected of workers and employers, so the changes affect everyone working in the social service sector. The main changes to the Codes are:

  • updated language
  • strengthening and reflecting developments in current practice
  • rights and relationships
  • de-cluttering and streamlining.

The SSSC is holding online and in person focus groups until the end of June as part of the consultation where you can discuss the changes, share your views and thoughts.

You can register your place at a focus group, download the revised Codes of Practice and respond to the consultation on the SSSC website.
