On Friday 7 February 2020, over 140 leaders from early learning and childcare (ELC) services in the Tayside area attended the ‘Inspiring Leadership in the Early Years’ conference at the Marryat Hall, Dundee, hosted by the Tayside Regional Improvement Collaborative.

The event aimed to offered sector leaders across Tayside the opportunity to network with colleagues, reflect on their practice and further their expertise in their roles.

The first key speaker, Sarah Philp, delivered an inspirational leadership session around collaboration and gave the audience opportunities to network and engage in professional dialogue to reflect on their role in the expansion of early learning and childcare. She spoke about making improvements and that collective support would ensure we all made a difference to the lives of our children and young people.

We were invited to deliver a session ‘Leading quality into 2020 and beyond’.

Colleagues from the ELC Improvement Programme Team and two of our inspectors spoke to delegates about the new SOFI tool, currently being used on inspections, what we can do for practitioners to support and improve their skills and knowledge.

We also got the opportunity to introduce our new Improvement Programme, which begins on Thursday 12 March in Inverness.  Selected providers and staff will be invited to participate in learning events and will work with the programme team to make improvements.  You can find out more about the programme here.
