This guidance is for use by service providers, those involved with commissioning, regulating or using nursery and large childminding services.
Nappy changing and personal care facilities play an important part in the prevention and control of infection within nurseries and large childminding services due to the number of children attending such services who many need their nappy changed or personal care given. There is a potential increased risk of infection which is different from the home setting where only one or two children maybe changed.
Many infections are spread by the faecal oral route which means that contamination of surfaces or hands during nappy changing or personal care episodes can then be transferred into the mouth if cleaning is poor or does not take place.
